I’ve supported hundreds of therapists in hospital, school and community settings to assess their clients' upper limb function and choose the best intervention for improvement
This isn’t top-down teaching. It’s shared exploration — you bring your questions, I bring my experience, and together we work through what’s clinically meaningful and practical for you and your clients.
No jargon or overwhelming theory. Just grounded, evidence-informed strategies that help you deliver real-world functional upper limb outcomes for every client
Our community is more than learning — it’s connection. You’ll meet occupational therapists who are as passionate, curious, and dedicated to growth and clinical excellence as you are

I’m Kathy Kuipers — an Occupational Therapist, Educator, Clinical Researcher, and Neuro Rehab Mentor passionate about empowering therapists to build clinical confidence through evidence-based knowledge and skills.
With over four decades of hands-on experience in neurological rehabilitation, I’ve helped countless clients regain independence and live fuller lives. My mission? To make neuro rehab straightforward, and easy to explain to clients AND colleagues — whether you’re a student, new grad or experienced clinician.
When I first started as a new grad OT in a residential facility for children with complex disabilities, I remember feeling overwhelmed — unsure what to assess, what to prioritise, or how to help my clients develop meaningful upper limb function.
Thankfully, I had a generous mentor who took me under her wing and showed me what “good neuro practice” could look like. That experience shaped everything I’ve done since — because I know what it feels like to face uncertainty, and I know how powerful it is to have someone beside you who “gets it.”
Years later, working in a specialist cerebral palsy service, a colleague and I developed a structured upper limb program blending functional activity, splinting, casting and surgical referral. As we began teaching others about our program, I quickly realised I wasn’t alone — almost every clinician I met described feeling unsure, overwhelmed, and anxious when treating children or adults with upper limb neuro dysfunction.
But here’s the thing: you can build competency and confidence in something you think is difficult — especially with someone you trust alongside you.
The key concept underpinning my approach to enhancing upper limb function is the Hypertonicity Intervention Planning Model (HIPM) — an evidence-based framework for structured, systematic clinical decision-making.
The HIPM encourages clinicians to take the long view — to understand and predict each client’s “upper limb journey” over time, plan accordingly, and always have “the next option” ready.
It clarifies assessment data, guides efficient intervention choices, and removes uncertainty from practice.
Research has shown that the HIPM promotes client-centred decision-making, even among experts — changing the way clinicians think about and apply neuro knowledge.
Ask questions on the spot and get immediate expert advice
Discuss real cases to strengthen decision-making skills
Build confidence to try new interventions without second-guessing
Years of presenting 3-day workshops taught me something important: even the most motivated clinicians often struggled to apply what they’d learned once back at work.
Real clinical transformation happens when you have ongoing, real-time, setting-specific support — when someone can guide you through actual client cases, right when the questions arise.
That’s why LIVE online mentoring is a game-changer.
It combines the accessibility of online learning with the depth and safety of a private, supportive mentoring space — where you can try new things under a watchful, non-judgmental eye, and build confidence step by step.
